New Car Service in Rockhampton

Engines that operate through internal combustion rely on large amounts of clean air to ensure the fuel burns properly and generates the power needed to drive the vehicle. At Robo's MotorWorks in Rockhampton, we understand how vital it is to keep your car's air filter in good condition as part of protecting your engine's health. Your engine requires extremely clean air to function efficiently. Dirt, dust, and other particles entering the engine can cause serious damage. That’s where the air filter comes into play. It ensures the air entering the combustion chambers is clean, shielding key engine components such as the pistons and cylinders from wear and damage. Why Replace Your Air Filter? Save on Fuel Costs: Your engine requires the correct balance of fuel and air to run efficiently. A clogged air filter restricts airflow, causing your engine to run inefficiently – often referred to as ‘running rich.’ This not only puts additional stress on your engine but can also increase fuel consumption by up to 10%. No one likes spending more on petrol than necessary! Protect Your Engine: Over time, air filters become clogged and weaker, increasing the risk of damage. A damaged or overly dirty air filter can allow harmful particles to enter the engine, potentially leading to expensive repairs. Benefits of Replacing Your Air Filter: Extends the life of your engine Improves fuel efficiency Reduces vehicle emissions At Robo's MotorWorks, we always check the condition of your air filter during every full car service. Whether it’s a major or minor service, or one that follows your manufacturer’s handbook or logbook guidelines, you can trust us to keep your engine running smoothly.

Keep your engine healthy with clean air filters. Improve fuel efficiency, reduce emissions, and extend engine life. Visit Robo's MotorWorks for expert maintenance and reliable car servicing.

A Queensland Safety Certificate inspection is more than a quick look at your tyres and a stamp of approval. It is a regulated inspection designed to determine whether a light vehicle meets the minimum safety standards required for registration-related purposes.

Whether you drive a petrol hatchback, diesel 4WD, hybrid SUV or fully electric vehicle, understanding what can cause an inspection failure can help you avoid unexpected repairs and get your vehicle ready before the inspection.

As an Approved Inspection Station, Robo's MotorWorks can inspect eligible light vehicles in Rockhampton, including Hybrid and Electric Vehicles (EVs). This complements the workshop's Hybrid and EV servicing capabilities, giving local owners access to a business familiar with the different safety considerations these vehicles require. What Does a Queensland Safety Certificate Inspection Check? A Queensland Safety Certificate applies to eligible light vehicles and is issued by an Approved Inspection Station (AIS). The inspection is based on Queensland's prescribed vehicle safety requirements rather than being a comprehensive mechanical health check.

This means an inspection looks at safety-critical areas such as: Braking systems Steering and suspension Wheels and tyres Lights and electrical safety equipment Windscreen, windows and visibility Seatbelts and other occupant safety components Body and structural condition Other items specified in the Queensland Light Vehicle Inspection Manual The important distinction is that passing a Safety Certificate does not mean every component on the vehicle is in perfect mechanical condition. It confirms that the vehicle meets the applicable minimum safety requirements at the time of inspection. Petrol, Diesel, Hybrid or EV – Safety Still Comes First The type of powertrain may be different, but every vehicle needs to be safe on the road.

Diesel vehicles can experience particular wear from heavy loads, towing, long-distance driving and rough roads. Petrol vehicles can develop problems with braking, steering, suspension and tyres just like any other vehicle.

Hybrid and electric vehicles introduce additional considerations because they combine conventional vehicle safety systems with high-voltage electrical technology.

For example, the Queensland Light Vehicle Inspection Manual specifically warns that Hybrid and EV systems can present an electric shock risk and should only be worked on by appropriately qualified people. It also notes that a hybrid's combustion engine can start unexpectedly if the vehicle has not been completely shut down.

For Robo's MotorWorks, this is particularly relevant. The workshop's ability to service Hybrid and EV vehicles means customers can have their vehicle inspected by a team familiar with the technology rather than treating an electrified vehicle exactly like a conventional petrol or diesel car. Common Problems That Can Affect a Safety Inspection Worn tyres

Tyres are your vehicle's only contact with the road, making their condition critical to braking, cornering and wet-weather grip.

Look for uneven tread wear, cracking, bulges or damage. Uneven wear can also be a clue that wheel alignment, steering or suspension components need attention.

Brake problems

A vehicle may still stop even when its braking system is becoming worn. Symptoms such as squealing, grinding, vibration, pulling to one side or a brake pedal that feels different should not be ignored.

Brake problems can also extend beyond brake pads. Discs, calipers, hoses, hydraulic components and the parking brake can all influence safe braking performance.

Steering and suspension wear

Worn bushes, ball joints, tie-rod ends, shock absorbers and other suspension or steering components can affect how accurately the vehicle responds to steering input.

This can be particularly important for 4WDs and utes regularly carrying heavy loads or travelling on unsealed roads around Central Queensland.

Windscreen, lights and visibility

A cracked or damaged windscreen, defective wipers, failed lights or damaged mirrors can affect your ability to see and be seen.

Don't assume a small fault is unimportant simply because the vehicle still drives normally. Safety inspections concentrate on components that have a direct relationship with safe vehicle operation. An Important Point About a Failed Inspection If a vehicle does not meet the required safety standard, the issue does not automatically mean the vehicle needs major repairs.

It could be something relatively straightforward, such as a defective light or unsuitable tyre. Alternatively, the inspection may identify worn steering, suspension or braking components requiring further diagnosis and repair.

An experienced workshop can explain what has been identified and what needs to be repaired to address the safety issue.

It is also worth remembering that a Safety Certificate is not a substitute for a pre-purchase inspection. If you are buying a used vehicle, a separate Pre Purchase Inspection can provide a much broader assessment of the engine, transmission, cooling system and other components. Tips Before Booking Your Inspection Before bringing your vehicle to Robo's MotorWorks, take a few minutes to: Check that headlights, brake lights, indicators and other lights work. Look at your tyres for damage, uneven wear and low tread. Check the windscreen and mirrors for damage. Make sure your windscreen wipers clean effectively. Pay attention to unusual brake noises or changes in braking performance. Check that seatbelts latch and operate correctly. Don't ignore warning lights or unusual vehicle behaviour. If your Hybrid or EV has displayed a system warning, have it investigated rather than simply clearing the warning. One of the best ways to avoid an inspection surprise is to maintain your vehicle throughout the year rather than preparing it only when registration is due. Safety Certificate Roadworthy FAQ Can Hybrid and EV vehicles have a Queensland Safety Certificate inspection? Yes. Eligible light vehicles can be inspected through an Approved Inspection Station, and Hybrid and EV vehicles have specific safety considerations that inspectors must understand. Does passing a Safety Certificate mean my car has been fully serviced? No. A Safety Certificate confirms compliance with applicable safety requirements; it is not a complete mechanical inspection or assessment of future reliability. Can an inspection identify a problem that wasn't obvious while driving? Yes. Some worn steering, suspension, tyre or braking components may not produce obvious symptoms during everyday driving. An inspection provides a structured assessment of safety-critical components. Can a Safety Certificate be used when transferring interstate registration to Queensland? A Safety Certificate is generally required when transferring a vehicle's registration to Queensland from another state or territory, subject to applicable exemptions. Are EVs inspected differently from petrol or diesel vehicles? The fundamental safety requirements still apply, but Hybrid and EV vehicles have additional high-voltage system safety considerations. Queensland's inspection manual specifically highlights the risks associated with high-voltage systems and the need for appropriate knowledge and certification when working on them. What is an Approved Inspection Station? An Approved Inspection Station (AIS) is authorised by Queensland's Department of Transport and Main Roads to conduct specified vehicle inspections. Approved examiners perform the inspections and eligible stations can issue Safety Certificates. Is a Safety Certificate the same as a roadworthy inspection? In Queensland, the term Safety Certificate is used for the relevant light-vehicle inspection. "Roadworthy" is commonly used to describe the same type of safety assessment. A Safer Way to Prepare for the Road From petrol and diesel cars to modern Hybrid and Electric Vehicles, safety-critical components need to be maintained and inspected correctly.

If you're preparing a vehicle for a Queensland Safety Certificate inspection, Robo's MotorWorks in Rockhampton can help. As an independently owned Repco Authorised Service centre and Approved Inspection Station, the workshop combines local automotive knowledge with the equipment and expertise needed to service and inspect today's increasingly diverse range of vehicles.
